In this tutorial, we will learn about different modes of Transmission- Simplex Mode, Half-duplex mode, and Full-duplex Mode
Data Transmission Modes
Transmission modes tell us the flow of direction of information between two communication devices.
When two communication devices are connected to each other and share data, then they use the communication channel and this direction is known as transmission mode.
It tells us that what types of information is it.
There are three types of transmission modes.
- Simplex Mode
- Half-Duplex Mode
- Full-Duplex Mode
Simplex Mode, this type of mode is unidirectional means, Data information flows only in one direction.
In this mode, the sender can only send the data but can’t receive it, and vice-versa.
Let me explain with you an example of Roadside vehicles.
The road in which traffic goes only in one direction is the best example of simplex mode, and if the vehicle tries to move in the opposite direction there will be an accident.
Examples of Simplex Mode
- The keyboard and Mouse only send input
- Monitor only shows the output
- One Way Road.
In half-duplex mode, data is flown in both directions but not at the same time, you have to wait for the end of one transmission mode only then the other will able to use it.
It means when one device is sending the message to another, at this time another device only can receive and vise-versa.
Let’s take one more example
There is a single-lane road and only one vehicle is allowed because there is only one vehicle space, then what will we do, we have to wait until the vehicle from the same side reaches the other side, only then you will be able to go another side.
Examples of Half-Duplex Mode
- Walkie-Talkie- You can talk and listen to both but not at the same time, you have to wait to speak after the other person completes its talk.
- Internet Browsers
In Full-duplex, mode data flow in both directions, and at the same time, it’s like a highway of a two-lane road.
Both sender and receiver transmit and receive messages at the same time.
Let’s take an example of a two-way lane Road.
In this, both vehicles can travel from destination A to B at the same time on two different roads.
Example of Full-duplex Mode
The best example of Full-duplex mode is WhatsApp chat, messenger, telephone calls, where we can receive and sends our messages at the same time.
Frequently Asked Questions
In which Modes do Radio and TV Transmission Modes come?
Radio and TV transmission are the simplex-modem because they are one-way communications and only show the telecast.
Which type of data transmission is a HUB device and a Switch device?
Hub device receives the signal and then sends it to different devices connected to it, therefore it is a half-duplex mode because it is a repeater that amplifies the signals and then sends them to the destination port.
Switch devices are in Full-duplex mode because the switch connected to each device can send and receive data at the same time, it stores the mac address of the device, so he knows which device data it is, and can send data to the destination even when another device is sending it.
Which type of mode of transmission is an Internet browser?
Internet browser is a type of half-duplex because it receives and sends back the command you give to it. If you search for the topic Transmission Modes after then it will search and gives you results, it cannot send you at the same time when you are typing.
